  1. Well, in an interesting development I reckon actresses (since women are more likely to feel the need to thank more people) while my wife reckons actors (since men tend to talk a lot when they think they are important).

    Who is right?

    1. Well let us settle this marital dispute.

      In this case it’s the actresses.

      Their average speech is 345 words. Actors say 309 words.

      Not overwhelming, but statistically significant.

  2. The longest acceptance speech was Greer Garson in 1943 for Mrs. Miniver at slightly over 5 minutes after which they put a time limit on them. I suspect that these days the average male and female speeches are pretty close but I would still say female speeches are slightly longer.
