Whilst “Virginia” may go further west than “West Virginia” at some points, “West Virginia” is predominately further west than “Virginia”. The deciding factor in my view is that the center point of “West Virginia” is west of the central point of “Virginia”.
On average, West Virginia is further west, but in absolute terms, Virginia goes further west.
