“Liberated” is an interesting word to use, given that Vichy France and its territories were, strictly speaking, a neutral entity in 1942 and Operation Torch could be seen as an aggressive unprovoked invasion.
Anyway, Casablanca.
Yeah we’re sticking with liberation.
Casablanca was not expected to be a particular success but had some of the best lines in any movie such as the police inspector witnessing a German officers shooting then telling his men: “Major Strasser has been shot; round up the usual suspects!” In the context it was great.
Casablanca also appears on the AFI list of best movie quotes more than any other film. Six of the 100 best quotes of all time are in it.
