Abe Lincoln was watching it when he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.
That’s what happened.
The pic we used was of Booth leaping to the stage after the shooting.
And Booth shouted “Sic semper Paratus!” (Thus all tyrants) He was a Southerner, an actor, apparently classically educated but not an admirer of Abe.
Wasn’t it “sic semper tyrannis”?
You are correct. Paratus means “prepared”. Brutus is also reported to have said Sic semper tyrannis when he assassinated Julius Caesar but I suspect that is more legend than fact.
