INTERESTING MOMENTS

A nurse got a question on nursing wrong.

Rail workers got a question on Australian rail gauges wrong.

On the other hand, following a bonus question about math, one player spent a few minutes working out the answer exactly. There were no points to be gained by it, he just really wanted to be precise.

And that was worth a point.

We played Our House by Madness, and one team answered that it was “that song from the Chemist Warehouse ads”.

When asking about the country with the southernmost IKEA, we had to explain that Antarctica is not a country, and also that there aren’t any IKEA outlets there.

See you next week.

See you next week.

INTERESTING MOMENTS

A player came to iQ Trivia for the first time because she was shortly going to be appearing on The Chase and wanted the practice. She came up to face the challenge of naming animals on the Chinese Zodiac. Here’s hoping she swears less on national television.

When we asked for an adjective for TriviArt, one new player immediately leapt to “voluptuous”, not knowing what the purpose was. Her mind was just consumed with the word voluptuous.

How many actors played Pi in Life of Pi? How about 3.14159? (Well some of them were quite small so maybe they don’t count as full people.)

Who built the Labyrinth in Greek mythology? David Bowie.

And one player aced a couple of questions on Hanson… before indicating that she had a Hanson tattoo.

And perhaps the biggest story of the week… one of our hosts became a father.

Congrats to Nikkita & Joe on their new arrival. We expect to see David down at trivia soon.

See you next week.

INTERESTING MOMENTS

We asked a question about Havianas in Australia in November… and one team had two members that were WEARING Havianas at the time, and had no trouble figuring out whether their logo was in uppercase or lowercase letters.

Unusual things overheard during quizzes and presented here devoid of context… “I told you, I am an expert on sperm!”

See you next week.

This Week in iQ Trivia – 30 October 2021

Here’s what you may have missed this week at iQ Trivia.

WINNERS

If you won, here’s evidence just in case anyone doesn’t believe you.

They won cash for knowing how far away the sun is… and then spent it all at the bar.

What does the I stand for in iQ Trivia?

Minty Sarah

Wonky Cage

Flamboyant Chimney

Spooky Cassowary

INTERESTING MOMENTS

One team at an online show was the only one to get the gambler’s question right, and they only got it right because the scribe overruled the rest of the team.

Once in a while you come across statements in the middle of the quiz that would be absurd or offensive in any other context. A player saying “yay Hitler” when Hitler was the answer to a question is one of those moments.

We asked for AFL clubs that wear the colour white, and one team asked if “under the nose” counted. Well if you mean what we thin you mean… then no.

In addition to their answer of “testicles”, one team drew a pair of testicles, perhaps assuming that our host might forget how to read.

We asked a question about the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody, and five minutes later, the musician outside started playing Bohemian Rhapsody.

One team thought a picture question on Die Hard was either an easy three points or nothing. But sure enough, one team got Die Hard, Bruce Willis, but couldn’t remember John McClane. HOW DO YOU FORGET JOHN MCCLANE and all he did to protect the innocent people at Nakatomi Plaza?

See you next week.

One of our hosts at one point found himself explaining anatomy to a team, before realising they were nurses.

See you next week.

INTERESTING MOMENTS

When we asked about a world class soccer player, one team came up with… “that other bastard, you know, the one that isn’t Ronaldo.”

The egg & spoon race is part of a triathlon.

A question on the most common words ending with DLE led one team to the word “fondle”. Which probably says something about them.

And a bonus question on sexual arousal really gave us a frankly disturbing window into what our players are into. Before someone thought of music, melolagnia was guessed to be a state of sexual arousal brought on by sunburns, feet, having a tongue in your ear, pictures of your grandparents, and urine. Some of you people are freaks!

See you next week.

A dilemma question on a hypothetical fight between a UFC champion and a pack of Justin Biebers showed us that most of you just want to see half a dozen Justin Biebers get their collective asses kicked.

And one of our winner came in with a 79 point win, largely because they enlarged their team to have some “young uns”. Diversity helps your trivia team people!

See you next week.

INTERESTING MOMENTS

A bonus question asked for days of the week in Portuguese. One team gave us the answer… in Spanish. But luckily for them, Saturday & Sunday are the same in both.

One of our bonus questions restricted players to one guess each. The closest guess went to one player, who went on to guess three more times. So we announced that they would have gotten a point if they had just stopped there, but they played themselves.

We gave players a choice between answering a question on video games or cold war countries. Dance Dance Revolution was more popular as an answer than Deutsche Demokratische Republik by a margin of 13-3.

One team misnamed the film 127 Hours as 27 Hours, and then pointed out that he could have saved himself 100 hours or torment.

Seven Nation Army was misremembered as Southern Nation Army. No, The White Stripes weren’t a Civil War based band.

See you next week.
