At a world record pace, who would win a race between a man running 800m, and two women running 400m in a relay?

I guess the man doing the 800.
But I have an inkling that the women’s 400 record is one of those FloJo ones that has an asterisk next to it, so it could be two women doing 400 each (assuming no loss of time in the baton exchange.
It’s actually the women.
Marita Koch has held the record for a quite a while, and she competed for East Germany which should give you some idea how long her record has stood.
And even accounting for some time lost in exchanging the baton, double her time of 47.60 is 1:35.20 and that is over 5 seconds faster than David Rudisha’s 1:40.91.
Ah. East Germany.
A few asterisks against that record then…
(But hey, she did it at Bruce Stadium in Canberra, back when it actually had a running track. So she is effectively an Australian!)
